About Fishing

Imagine. A truly wild place. A place where pristine wildlands and tundra stretch to the toe of the ocean. A place where only a few remote villages nestle along the river mouth. A place of true abundance.

In southwestern Alaska, the Aleutian islands cradle the convergence of rich river systems, the Nushagak, Egegik, Ugashik, Naknek-Kvichak and Togiak. Every summer, in this place, the waters pulse with millions of salmon returning home to spawn.

This place is pure. No hatcheries. No farmed fish. Ever. Welcome to Bristol Bay, home of the world’s largest salmon run. This place is wild.

A WILD Place.

A Healthy Harvest.

The successful sustainability of the Bristol Bay fishery originates with the intimate subsistence practices of native cultures. Today, a multitude of entities work together to ensure the future of a healthy salmon population.

Commercial fishing in Bristol Bay adheres to extremely strict regulations with ADF&G (Alaska Department of Fish and Game) managing the fishery day-to-day. Each river system is monitored by a dedicated biologist who determines when and where fishermen can harvest.

Handled with Care…

From the sea...

Bristol Bay is made up of a fleet of family owned and operated drift-gillnet fishing vessels. Each boat can be a maximum of 32-ft long with a maximum net length of 200 fathoms. The net we set in the water, catches salmon as they return to the river to spawn and end their life cycle.

Harvested.

After bringing the fish on-board, we hand bleed each and every salmon before placing them in refrigerated holds. We deliver our fish to a larger vessel called a ‘tender’, who then takes the fish to the processing plant on-shore.

Sealed and Delivered!

In collaboration with Leader Creek Fisheries, my fish are filleted and flash frozen in a commercial food grade facility. They are transported to Seattle, WA on a freezer barge where I will pick them up and bring them to you!
